This photograph reminds me of those aerial shots in movies. Sloooowwly, the camera pans over an urban landscape, and the roofs of the buildings remind me of stovetops. The music soars - and there are always violins - and the scene is set.

These are some bits I worked on this week in the studio. Soon to be earrings, currently sterling and brass bits that need a little cleaning up, but I felt were worthy of a photo nonetheless.

The old place.

I found this key in an old typesetting drawer my parents used as a shadowbox. Obviously, I had to take my saw to it. It will eventually be a pendant. For now, it's a fabulously weighted thing, a tiny, shiny object to take too many photos of (not unlike it's fellow typesetting drawer inhabitant, the the dear deer).

The dear deer keeps watch over some of the components for my new pieces, wonders which piece will be her new ear.

The shop update is upon us! I just put the three new pieces up in the shop, but wanted to pop over here and show you, in case you aren't in the market for any new baubles at the moment but still like to look at photos:



G-O-O-D. Stamped right in the middle of the bowl, on the underside, a message just for the wearer. Because it reminded me of an egg, and because I'm a little in love with it, because it fit with how I felt making it.

Off to begin work on the next batch of items, to be updated in two weeks or a little less. Pictures, of course, of the process, whether you want them or not. ;)

A little {more of a} sneak peek!

I love finding things that I find beautiful in their own right, and then realizing I can make them into something I might love even more. These tines once belonged to this fork, which was found in my favorite thrift. The fork was constructed from brass, then plated with sterling silver. Due to age and wear, the tips of the tines and bits of the back have worn through to the brass, and the silver tarnished to a bluish grey. I noticed the contrast immediately while sorting through the bin, and loved it - and I knew that brass is much easier to drill through than steel, which is what most silverware is made from. So, I took it home. I sawed, and sanded, and drilled, and oxidized, and burnished and finally came out the other end with these earrings - perfectly imperfect and one of a kind.
